Bhubaneshwar
Bhubaneshwar is a city of 500 Temples, named after the Lord of the
Universe. Well-known attractions in and around Bhubaneshwar are Puri,
Konarak and Gopalpur-on-Sea, the Dhauli Pillar. Apart from these the
ruined city of Sisupalgarh and the Nandankanan gardens are of
interest.
Places of Interest
- The Dhauli Pillar - and the rock inscriptions narrate the
horrors of the Kalinga war as experienced by Emperor Ashoka and
these inscriptions are very clear even after almost 2000 years.
- Sisupalgarh - dating back to the first century BC reveal a
town with fortifications and ramparts much in the tradition of the
Harappan civilisation Nandankanan - 30 kms from Bhubaneshwar is a
garden divided into a wild life sanctuary, botanical gardens and a
lake.
